| Greeks enjoy celebrating and on top of all other holidays in Crete there are also 300 saint days. All Greeks take their name from Saints and therefore celebrate on that particular Saints day, these are know as Name days. The celebration of name days is far more significant to Greeks than birthdays. One of the most important name days in the calendar is Maria or Mary. Whole villages will also celebrate when the village church has its name day. Dont be surprised if you come across some one celebrating a name day, and when you do the appropriate greeting is Kronia Polla !
Have a look in our page with all the Greek name days.
